Arsene Wenger is desperate to win trophies…!

Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal can win a Barclays Premier League title challenge despite the huge spending by the likes of Manchester City.

Arsenal, in contrast, have spent just £8.5million on defender Laurent Koscielny and Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh moved to the Emirates on a free transfer.

City have splashed out £80million on four players so far this summer in a bid to break into the top four and secure Champions League football.

But Wenger is convinced Arsenal will improve on last year's third-place finish.

"I am very confident [we'll do better than last season]," Wenger told the club's website.

"We know in England that the Premier League is the biggest league in the world and everybody invests a lot of money.

"We invest in our work, in our beliefs, in the quality of our behaviour and I am confident that will pay off. "We finished third last year and we hope we can improve on that - but the race will be tough."

Arsenal's pre-season preparations will continue against AC Milan on Friday in the Emirates Cup.

Wenger: Cesc Fabregas is not for sale at any price

Arsene Wenger has made it clear to Barcelona that Cesc Fabregas is not for sale at any price.

Barcelona is to bring Fabregas back to the Nou Camp, where he played in the youth set-up before moving to Arsenal.

Arsenal turned down a £29million bid for Fabregas earlier this summer and consistently stated that the club captain is going nowhere

Wenger told Arsenal.com: "I am very happy with Cesc and we are all very happy at the club with Cesc”.

Barcelona spokesman Toni Freixa said this week: "Arsenal don't want to sit down and negotiate with us.

Wenger said he has learned to live with situation and he insisted Arsenal fans should not be concerned about where Fabregas' future lies.

"It is only noise. In our job we have to deal with what we can master. What we cannot influence is not to worry about," Wenger added.

Chelsea need to spend some cash in order to retain the title

The departure Joe Cole, Juliano Belletti and Michael Ballack has made it very difficult for Chelsea manager to compete with the teams like Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Spurs.

Just to remind the Chelsea fans that 50 million bid for Fernando Torres was rejected earlier this month by liverpools new manager who is trying his best to strengthen his squad inorder to regain the spot for Champions league football.

During the summer transfer window Chelsea have only managed to sign Youssi Benayoun from Liverpool and Tomas Kalas (from Sigma Olomouc). So there is a massive gap in the midfield which needs to be filled.

Recently Drogba has also joined the list of injured players for Chelsea, after undergoing a surgery for groin injury and is set to miss the start of season.

In the absence of Drogba it looks like that Salomon Kalou will play along side with Nicklous

Anelka. And it would be difficult for any one to fill the gap created by te absence of Premier league’s best striker.

So Carlo Ancelotti who is looking to add some new blood will have to hurry up.

DROGBA to miss start of season..

Didier Drogba the Golden Boot winner for Chelsea is set to miss the start of season after undergoing a groin surgery.

Chelsea said on Saturday they expect their star striker to return to training in "approximately three weeks" - the end of such a period is the same day the Blues kick-off their new campaign at home to West Brom.

A statement issued on the club's official website read: "Didier Drogba successfully underwent minimally invasive surgery yesterday [Friday] on the groin injury that had troubled him for some of last season.

The 32-year-old, who scored 29 league goals last season, would then likely need a period of time to regain the full match fitness.

At least Chelsea, the defending champions, appear to have a soft start to the new season.

After playing West Brom on August 14, they have games against Wigan, Stoke and West Ham before their Champions League campaign gets under way on either September 14 or 15.

The surgery certainly makes it highly unlikely that Drogba will play in the Community Shield against Manchester United on August 8.

Just to remind you that Cech and Alex are already sidelined due to injuries and set to miss the start of season.

After Chelsea and Mancity, Barcelona also join queue for Balotelli

Barcelona are the latest and only Spanish club to join the line for Italian Striker Mario Balotelli.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Blaugrana president Sandro Rosell has registered his interest in the 19-year-old with the player's agent Mino Raiola, who also embodies Zlatan Ibrahimovic's interests.

Barcelona announced that they had 50m to spend this summer. Barcelona has already signed highly rated Spanish striker David Villa. Now if they have to sell if they want to buy. Wait are we forgetting something...They have already sold Yaya Toure to City. So if they really want to sign the Out of favour inter milan striker, cash constraints would not be an issue.

Raiola and Rosell met during a general meeting to discuss about Ibrahimovic, who looks set to remain at the Nou Camp despite the ongoing speculation linking him away from the Nou Camp.

But with Rosell being a character who seldom lets an opportunity to talk football pass, took the chance to enquire Raiola about the situation revolving Balotelli.

He told Raiola: "He is a young talent suitable for Barcelona."

However, hijacking a move for the problematic yet talented youngster could be too late an attempt as talks between Inter and pack-leader Manchester City are at an advanced stage.

Outspoken Inter president Massimo Moratti has also confirmed on Friday that talks between both clubs are on-going.

The cash-rich Premier League club have just confirmed the signing of Aleksandar Kolarov from Lazio but are not expected to relinquish their pursuit of Balotelli.
